Stormwater Utility
At the regularly scheduled Council meeting on February 4, 2008, Village Council unanimously voted to implement a Stormwater Utility and an Unauthorized Sewer Connection Program.
Due to frequent localized flooding at various locations throughout the Village; Council determined that it was necessary to create a Stormwater Utility that would generate revenue to be used to improve and upgrade the existing storm sewer system. The course of action that the Village has followed for many years is not solving the flooding issue; therefore, they voted in favor of creating this utility.
The basic concept is to charge a flat fee per customer per month, to be included on the monthly utilities bill, and utilize those funds to cover the costs of improvements. Because the program is in the early stages, the monthly charge has yet to be determined. There are many steps involved prior to the implementation of the program. It is estimated that the program shall be in full force some time in calendar year 2009, with storm sewer projects to follow shortly thereafter.
