Street Maintenance Program
To manage street improvements effectively, the Village implemented a Street Maintenance Program in 2005. This program helps prioritize projects, estimate costs, and schedule improvements on an annual basis.
Streets are inspected and evaluated every three years, and the program is updated regularly to reflect current conditions. To address potholes and surface damage—especially following winter weather—the Village utilizes a Durapatcher machine, allowing for efficient repairs without the need to purchase large quantities of asphalt. Patching typically takes place during warmer months and helps reduce costs while keeping streets safe and passable.
Funding & Improvements
Street maintenance and infrastructure improvements are funded through a combination of Village funds and state or federal assistance programs. Funding sources may include:
Village Funds
Street Fund, Capital Projects Fund, and Permissive Fund.
State Highway Fund
Used for eligible roadway projects.
Grants & Low-Interest Loans
State and federal programs that support infrastructure improvements.
Each funding source has specific usage requirements, and the Village carefully evaluates street conditions each year to ensure funds are used responsibly and effectively.
Winter Road Safety
During winter months, the Village applies road salt as needed to improve driving conditions and reduce hazards caused by snow and ice. On average, approximately 50 tons of salt are used each year to help maintain safe roadways throughout the winter season.
